[COP31 | RCF Pavilion | In-Person] From People Power to Public Policy: Empowering Communities and Local Action for Inclusive Energy Transitions in Asia-Pacific
Across Asia-Pacific, communities, local governments and civil society organisations are playing an increasingly important role in shaping energy transitions. From grassroots movements that have challenged fossil fuel expansion, to public participation mechanisms that strengthen trust in decision making, to local government initiatives accelerating household electrification, people are becoming active participants rather than passive recipients of energy policy.
This session will explore how meaningful public participation, community mobilisation and local governance can help deliver energy transitions that are faster, more inclusive and more responsive to local needs. Through case studies from countries in Asia Pacific, participants will examine practical approaches for engaging communities, empowering local actors and supporting the transition away from fossil fuels while expanding access to clean energy solutions.
The discussion will highlight lessons that can be transferred across different contexts and identify opportunities for stronger collaboration among governments, civil society organisations, development partners and local communities.
The session highlights key themes of implementing and accelerating the transition away from fossil fuels through public participation, community leadership and local action.
